HOW:To become a Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL), you must meet
CoSN's eligibility requirements (typically a bachelor’s degree + 4 years of K-12 experience), pass the CETL exam covering the "Framework of Essential Skills," and adhere to a code of conduct. Certification requires renewal every three years via 60 continuing education hours. CoSN +2Steps to Become a CETL:
- Verify Eligibility: Possess a Bachelor's degree and four years of education technology experience in a K-12 setting. Alternatively, an Associate's degree with seven years of experience is acceptable.
- Apply for the Exam: Submit an application through the CoSN website and pay the fee ($299 for members, $499 for nonmembers).
- Prepare for the Exam: Study the CoSN Framework of Essential Skills of the K-12 CTO, which covers leadership, educational environment, and technology management. Utilize the self-assessment toolkit or 11-module training guide.
- Pass the Exam: The exam is a 115-question, multiple-choice, computer-based test. It can be taken at PearsonVue testing centers or via remote proctoring.
- Maintain Certification: To retain the designation, you must complete 60 hours of continuing education every three years
